REAL ESTATE TAXES

Real Estate Tax payments for the second half of 2008 (pay in 2009)
are due by midnight, July 8, 2009.

Ohio Real Estate Taxes - commonly referred to as "property taxes" - are collected by the County Treasurer twice a year, based on the assessment of value made by the County Auditor. Property tax collections take place in December/ January (called the "first half" collection) and June/July (called the "second half" collection). The exact dates change from year to year - the due date is noted on your tax bill. In accordance with state law property taxes are billed at the end of the year in which they are assessed. Thus the taxes billed in December 2006 (and due in January 2007) are the taxes assessed for the first half of 2006. Although you will normally be billed for property taxes twice a year, you may also choose to pay once per year or in convenient monthly installments. You can also choose to have your tax payments automatically withdrawn from your checking or savings account.

Property taxes are the main source of revenue for school districts; approximately 60% of your tax payment goes to your local school district. For a complete explanation of your property taxes please go to Explanation of a Property Tax Bill.
